REVIEW: KFC Original Recipe Tenders & Cherry Pie Poppers
I recently tried KFC’s Original Recipe Tenders and Cherry Pie Poppers, and while both had their moments, they also had some drawbacks.
You can check out my last KFC review, of the saucy nuggets, here.
Starting with the Original Recipe Tenders, I was looking forward to that crispy texture KFC is known for, but unfortunately, they weren’t as crispy as I hoped. They steamed themselves in the bag, which caused them to lose that crunch. Despite that, the tenders were a decent size—much bigger than I remember from when I used to get them in the Chicken Littles. The flavor, thanks to KFC’s signature 11 herbs and spices, was spot on. What really stood out for me, though, was the sauce. I went with the Comeback sauce, and it was fantastic. It had a strong peppery kick, which added a lot to the otherwise simple tenders. I’d give them a 6/10 overall.
Next, the Cherry Pie Poppers were an interesting addition. I was surprised by how crisp the pastry was for a fast food item, which is a rarity. However, these need to be eaten fresh, or they quickly become soggy. The cherry filling was more sour than sweet, which I liked—it had a natural, fruity taste. On the downside, the inside was a bit undercooked, making the overall texture less satisfying. While the flavor was there, the execution could have been better. I’d also give these a 6/10.
