REVIEW: DiGiorno Thanksgiving Pizza

What a monstrosity. I loved it as a novelty though.

I recently tried DiGiorno’s limited-edition Thanksgiving Pizza, a creative take on holiday flavors in a Detroit-style pizza. As it baked, I expected an aroma reminiscent of Thanksgiving, but the smell was more like fresh bread, missing that festive flair.

One of the first things I noticed on tasting was the texture of the green beans. As a self-professed frozen green bean hater, I wasn’t excited to see them as a topping. They have that typical squeakiness that’s hard to enjoy, though in pieces where the beans were covered in gravy and cheese, they softened up and tasted better. For green bean fans, this might be a fun addition, but it’s not a highlight for me.

On the positive side, the turkey pieces are impressive – they’re real, tender chunks of turkey, not processed bits. The quality of the turkey adds authenticity, and it felt like a genuine Thanksgiving addition. Another interesting component is the cranberries. While cranberries on pizza might sound odd, they add a chewy texture and slight sweetness that actually works, cutting through the richness of the gravy and cheese. The cranberries offer a welcome balance to the heavier flavors and keep the pizza from feeling too one-note.

As for the gravy, it’s thick enough to serve as a decent sauce, but it’s lacking in flavor. While it binds the toppings well, a bit more seasoning would have elevated it. The crispy onions are a little hard to spot, but in pieces where they’re present, they add a nice crunch and a subtle, savory note that complements the other toppings.

Overall, DiGiorno’s Thanksgiving Pizza scores a 6/10 from me. It’s a fun novelty item, blending the holiday’s signature flavors with the pizza format. If you’re curious about new twists on classic Thanksgiving dishes, it’s worth a try for the experience alone – just don’t expect traditional Thanksgiving flavors.
