REVIEW: McDonald’s Chicken Big Mac

Big and bland. Also, yes, that’s the hood of my car.

Check out my last review of McDonald’s Special Grade Garlic Sauce here.

Interestingly, this item has been on McDonald’s menus around the world for years, but it only just made its way to the U.S. I’m not sure why it took so long to arrive, considering how popular it’s been internationally. Naturally, I was hyped to finally try the McDonald's Chicken Big Mac here at home, especially since I’ve seen it elsewhere. I expected it to be like two McChicken patties stacked in a Big Mac style, but it turned out to be quite different.

I placed my order through the app, and the service was incredibly fast—less than five minutes from order to pickup, which was impressive. When I got the Chicken Big Mac, the first thing I noticed was how large it was. Just like a regular Big Mac, it’s a pretty hefty sandwich but the chicken patty itself was surprisingly bland. It lacked the seasoning you’d expect from a fast food chicken sandwich, and the flavor reminded me of a giant McNugget—though with even less salt.

On the plus side, the cheese was nicely melted due to the fried patties, and the tempura batter was crisp, which added a satisfying texture. However, the size made it awkward to eat, and just like with the regular Big Mac, the combination of pickles and Thousand Island dressing made it overly acidic, which didn’t help the overall taste.

While I was excited for this release, the Chicken Big Mac fell a bit short of expectations. I’d give it a 6/10 overall—mostly for the experience of trying it.
