REVIEW: McDonald’s Smoky BLT Quarter Pounder with Cheese

We all know what McDonalds is supposed to be. If you’ve eaten at one, you’ve eaten at them all. How can a smoky mayo change anything?

First off, let's talk about the beef. McDonald's switch to non-frozen beef for their QPC has made a significant difference. The patty is juicier and more flavorful than ever before. It’s clear that the quality of the beef has improved.

However, the Smoky BLT QPC isn't without its flaws. One of the main features of this burger is the smoky mayo. Unfortunately, the liquid smoke added to the mayo has an unpleasant, almost sour, aftertaste. It’s a flavor that lingers and detracts from the overall enjoyment of the burger.

The gimmick behind this burger is that it's a BLT (bacon, lettuce, and tomato) in Quarter Pounder form. However, the execution falls short. The burger comes with a regular portion of lettuce, tomato, and bacon – nothing special or extra to justify the BLT label. It feels more like a standard Bacon Quarter Pounder with cheese.

Another point of contention for me was the bun. The new texture of the bun didn't sit well with me. It felt off and didn't complement the burger as well as I had hoped.

Consistency is key in fast food, and I was disappointed to find that the sauce in my Smoky BLT QPC didn't match the first round of this burger’s release. The first iteration contained sauce on both top and bottom buns, but it only comes on the top bun now. This inconsistency might seem minor, but it does affect the overall experience and leaves you feeling like something is missing.

Rating: 7/10

I mean, it’s still a QPC at the end of the day and the QPC has been great since switching to non-frozen beef. It still deserves a high score. However, I will say that the smoky mayo doesn’t add much.
