REVIEW: Dominos 5-Cheese Mac & Cheese
Domino's introduced its 5-Cheese Mac & Cheese to the menu on September 23, 2024. This dish features penne pasta baked with a blend of cheddar, American, Parmesan-Asiago, mozzarella, and Alfredo sauce, resulting in a creamy and flavorful experience. Additionally, there's a Spicy Buffalo version that includes a drizzle of hot buffalo sauce for those seeking a bit of heat. Customers can further customize their mac and cheese by adding jalapeños or bacon for an extra $0.99 each. This offering is available as part of Domino's Mix & Match Deal, where you can choose any two or more items for $6.99 each.
As a fan of mac and cheese, I was curious to try Domino’s 5-Cheese Mac & Cheese, but it’s a salt bomb.
First off, if there’s such a thing as “too cheesy,” this might be it. Domino’s 5-Cheese Mac & Cheese is undeniably loaded with cheese, which sounds great in theory, but in practice, the saltiness is overpowering. The mix of cheeses includes mozzarella, asiago, cheddar, American cheese, and Alfredo sauce, as confirmed by Reddit user u/Mr_TigerZ, who commented on my review. The variety of cheeses should give a rich, layered flavor, but they blend into a salt-heavy experience that’s hard to get through.
The texture of the cheese is a bit odd as well. It has a runny consistency similar to what Domino’s uses in their Five Cheese Dip & Bread Twists. I suspect they might be using a blend that includes vegetable oil and some textured protein, giving it that unusual, slightly artificial feel. It doesn’t have that thick, creamy richness you’d expect from a classic mac & cheese; instead, it feels more like a cheese sauce with additives.
Overall, it’s not a terrible dish, but it’s a lot to take in. After a few bites, the heaviness from the cheese and salt felt overwhelming. I’d rate it a 5 out of 10. It’s a dish for serious cheese lovers who don’t mind a salty punch, but it’s definitely intense. If you’re looking for a traditional, comforting mac & cheese, you might find this version lacking, but if you love cheese-forward flavors with a kick, it could be worth a try.
